Better Safe than Sorry

Posted on

Sometimes we just need to be better safe than sorry…especially when we are talking about personal safety. When it comes to personal safety I would much rather be safe than sorry later on.

Better Sorry than Safe…sometimes though the opposite is how we need to roll. There are other times we just need to let caution go by the way side, this is usually when I speak my mind or my piece about something. There have been several times that I have been sorry that I had to say what needed to be said and I have lived with the consequences. Unfortunately there are times in our lives when we need to speak out whether for ourselves or for someone else.

It hurts like crazy when you have to speak out and tell a friend they are being an idiot but a true friend will still do it. It also hurts both parties when you have to speak out about family anything…it never fails there are always hurt feelings but sometimes leaving things unsaid is not in everyone’s best interest.

There have also been those times, especially as a mom, that I have told the kids not to do something because they were going to get hurt and sure enough that is what happened. I figured out pretty earlier with my first child that I could not protect him forever but it wasn’t for lack of trying.

Sometimes we all choose to err on the side of caution and other times we just need to get a good grip and jump.

Random Acts of Kindness

Posted on

Today I have truly seen acts of kindness in action. A friend here locally lost the majority of her and her children’s possessions due to a house fire. One of our mutual friends started a FB friend to help her put things in her house, as soon as she can find somewhere to live. This group now has about 80 members and people have donated so generously, I know that this is not an example of Random Kindness but it is kindness in a true form.

Random Kindness, I have always thought was the things that we would do without even thinking about it…holding a door, waiting patiently or letting someone ahead of you in the grocery line.

Acts of Kindness can happen between friends, associates, or the like even perfect strangers. I suppose that any act of pure kindness is important whether it is random or not it is still kindness.

I believe that I have seen Kindness in the best form today and I only hope if I was ever in a position similar that I would receive the same kindness. I hope that our dear friend knows how much she is loved by this group of people and I hope that her and her boys are truly blessed through these Acts of Kindness.

How to define a friend? Friends have many different qualities but not always all of the same qualities at the same time. There are the friends that you know you can cry with and they will cry for you. There are the friends that you know you can share anything with and they will never judge you. You should have friends that you know you can laugh with and just have fun. We should all have a least one friend that will just tell it like it is.

Our friends are not necessarily the center of our lives especially as we have families of our own but they should certainly be an extension of our lives. Here were we live we meet friends through so many different activities. If you are a parent, you will naturally meet other parents and become friends over time. If you go to church you meet a whole other group of friends. Of course you meet friends at work, the store, or any of the gathering places that are frequented.

When I look at my Facebook friends list, I notice that I have 160 friends, many of which are family or extended family not to mention new-found family that keeps growing, but many other are the friends that I have made here in town through work or the kids. I never add anyone to my Facebook lightly or just because we have a ton of friends in common. I have a few friends that are friends of friends that requested to be my friend and I am ok with that. I have some new friends that I have so enjoyed meeting and sharing with. I have two friends that I have known the longest, one from the 3rd-4th grade and then lost contact with until Facebook. The other friend was one of my first friends when I started a new school in the 5th grade and we have been friends ever since even when we have lost and refound that same friendship.

So what to look for in a friend. I look for someone who I enjoy talking to or spending time with, we should have something in common but not everything, somebody that accepts me with all my faults like I would do right back. A friend should be encouraging or motivating. A friend should be someone who you would not mind seeing you at your worse as well as your best and everything in between. Somebody that will tell you it is time to put on your big girl panties and get right back in the game.

There is that saying that says a good friend would bail you out of jail but a true friend would be right next to you saying, ‘damn that was fun!’
