Mindless Entertainment

Posted on

Mindless entertainment…there is no true meaning too it but it sure keeps us from over thinking the little things in life…and if nothing else it can make us laugh.

I love to play my games on Facebook. I really like the card games because I really do not have to think about them too much, great time killers. Just like watching some of those crazy shows that come on at night, American Dad, is the greatest in mindless entertainment. There is nothing to think about because if you truly thought about it you would not watch it.

Hubby and I have been playing Slotmania…cheaper than the casino and totally mindless. Not to mention the fact that you can bet larger sums of money then you would ever do in real life. Like playing online poker…you cares if you lose, you can’t pay the bills with it.

There are many times late at night if I can’t sleep I put in a DVD usually of a movie I have seen a hundred times or an old sitcom, I don’t have to think about what is going on and usually then it will lull me to sleep.

There are so many things that we will do to keep from over thinking all of our problems but I believe the greatest is the mindless entertainment that we all seek out in one way or another.

Favorite Characters and Other Stuff

Posted on

Have you ever wanted to visit or talk to your favorite character? Not the actor or actress but the character they play.

Think about how often you yell at the tv about something. I can think of several favorite characters from books, movies, and tv. I have always like Gone With The Wind, I would love to talk to Scarlet O’Hara, not the movie Scarlet but the novel character. She was strong and feminine all at the same time. Truly a women ahead of her time.

I have seen some great movies but part of me would want to talk to Princess Leah and ask her what is up with that hair…I mean really now. There are so many great characters in so many great movies.

The other day I actually got stuck watching some daytime TV while getting my nails done. I have not watch a soap opera since…wow I can’t really remember it may have been when I was pregnant with Joey. The funny thing is the plots are still the same. Everyone is still sleeping with everyone else, they hate each other, they are suing each other, cat fights, you name it and it was there in the 20 minutes that I was stuck watching. Sometimes they make you want to reach into the tv and smack them.

What really amazes me about daytime tv is that the plot never changes only the characters. It doesn’t matter what channel you are on either. I would rather watch game shows. Speaking of game shows before the soap came on The Price is Right was on…now there was no Bob Barker but Drew Carey but the audience still looked like they were back in the day. The only difference was the host and the prizes were modern but even the audiences clothes looked like they were from the late 70’s.

I saw that a friend of a friend had posted a comment that daytime tv sucks your brain cells out and I can certainly see why.

Reality TV

Posted on

I have watched some reality tv but I have become pretty selective. I prefer the Food Network Chopped, Challenge, Next Iron Chef, and Next Food Network Star. I am not a fan of Survivor (gasp) in fact I have never watched a single episode (double gasp, I’m sure). I don’t Idol, or Dance or whatever else they do on tv for entertainment. I don’t really care who gets married or how old they both are. I did watch the Apprentice for a while but then it just got to be too much for me. The best thing about the Apprentice was the information that came out of every episode, real true life business knowledge from business leaders around the world.

Now if I were to have my own reality tv show it would be boring…A Day in My Life…there is not that much everyday stuff at this point. Unless, of course, you count the puking child last night and again today, yep same child. Who wants to watch that on tv? There are the days that might make for funny tv but not like the days when Joe was overseas, now that would make for great tv…A Day in the Life of a Military Wife. Those were hectic times.

We have a dear family friend whose husband is currently deployed and she has had to have the boys shovel snow (back east of course), been back and forth to many activities with her boys, not to mention the fact that she homeschools…now that is a reality.

We have many local friends that home school in one fashion or another and I will tell you they really have what it takes. If I were to home school the only reality tv that would be would be me pulling out my hair. I do not have the patience for that. We have enough trouble sometimes with just getting their homework done in a timely fashion. My daughter has taken 2 hours to do 20 math problems and wanted a break after the first one. That is one reality that I am not up to the challenge of at this point in time.
